I don't think I've ever been so disappointed
The domain that I bought turned out to be a total waste of money, it's not working how I expected it to work. You have two options for forwarding it to a server...you can have it redirect to a site, for example: type w1ldtangent.net into the address bar, and then it will turn into longlivemarneus.serveftp.net, or have it as a mask, so that w1ldt4ng3nt.net stays in the address bar...but...it goes just a little too far. With masking enabled, you can put in w1ldt4ng3nt.net, then click Justin in the directory, and then blog to reach this site, but...w1ldt4ng3nt.net is still in the address bar, instead of w1ldt4ng3nt.net/Justin/blog as it should be. Unless godaddy can make this right, I'll be requesting a refund and getting a domain from dyndns.com, who provide my current address, for free, and it works properly. Getting a .com or .net address from them is more expensive, but to be honest, I think it's worth every penny as long as it behaves as it should. Sorry for the rant...I just hate paying for something, only to be disappointed because it doesn't work properly.
EDIT: I take it all back...it was my own lack of knowledge that caused all this...however, I got it working now. YAY!
I registered a proper domain address today!
I registered www.w1ldt4ng3nt.net with godaddy today. It only cost me $9.20 USD for one year! A good price if you ask me. It takes time for a new domain to become "active", so don't try using the new address yet, you won't have much success :P
Edit: The domain is now active, but I forgot to set it up to mask my original address...so it will take some time for that to happen :\
Server migration to happen sometime today...
Don't worry though, the site won't go down, I have it all setup on a backup server :D I will be installing Ubuntu linux on my server to replace my install of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. I've been using linux for the past year or so, and so far I've been avoiding changing my server over because I didn't want downtime, but that's now a non-issue, yay! See you on the other side I guess.
Adventures with Siguld part 2
So again me and Siguld played CS:S, and again it was fun for a while, til it got repetative. At least no one told me to stop AWPing. Speaking of which, I got an Ace, I knocked off all 4 Terrorists with the AWP when they rushed middle on dust2 :D To quote Sig, "Amazing". Amazing only because I normally suck at sniping in CS, as I'm sure others have done way better than that :P
Let the aggressive linking program commence!
I'm currently trying to get myself indexed on Google, and other search engines. I will do this by getting links on as many pages as possible, and using blog linking sites, such as Technorati (Technorati Profile). Stay tuned for more diabolical plans :)
EDIT: Just added myself to Popdex, hopefully they'll approve my submission :)
Random CS:S fun...and gripes
Today I was playing Counter Strike: Source with my buddy Siguld (not his name, his username on my forum :P). We were playing on dust2 (who doesn't, lol), 3 on 2. There was this guy on the other team who seemed to be AFK, so we would kill the other guy (who always rushed mid), and then we raced each other to the AFK guy to knife him. I thought it was pretty funny. Earlier on, in that server, when there were more people, I kept getting bitched at for using the AWP. When will those kids just learn to counter other's tactics instead of whining. That's the thing that pisses me off most about CS, all the preteen whiners, who spend more time playing CS than doing anything else, even sleeping, yet they still can't take out a sniper camping mid. Anyway, I guess I should stop bitching about bitching...
Got a new(ish) CPU for my linux computer
Today I replaced my 1.6 ghz, 128MB cache P4 with a Celeron 2.4 ghz, 128MB cache that I've overclocked to 2.8 ghz. All in all, it's pretty sweet :D My computer doesn't seem as sluggish anymore (and my vpenis grew by 10 cm :P).
Total stats on my computer now:
Celeron 2.4 ghz @ 2.8 ghz (400 mhz FSB)
Biostar U866D motherboard
1 GB Infineon DDR-400 RAM
Western Digital 80GB hard drive
LG 16x DVD-ROM
black mATX case

EDIT: Forgot to mention, this upgrade only cost me $25! And I may be getting another P4 motherboard so I can finally upgrade my server. (If you can't access this blog...you know I screwed something up :P)
Battlefield 1.2 patch
I like most of what I'm hearing about this new patch :) Here are some of the features
- Server search filters now work properly
- All mines (Claymore, Anti-vehicle, C4) can now be picked up by the same class that dropped it by using the "G" key.
- Mines can no longer be destroyed with other explosives
- Flash bang effect radius decreased
- Added unlocks for Sniper and AT kits
- Fixed a bug in terrain rendering with night vision, whereby terrain was still dark in dark areas.
- Fixed a bug whereby mods that are not bf2 or not xpack permutate shaders every time a level is loaded.
- Fixed a bug whereby non-xpack mods cannot use xpack shaders.
- Fixed bug in TV guided missiles of Havoc helicopter.
- Bug in MP7 fire rate fixed. Ammo count increased and mag count and damage decreased.
- APC Update - "Chinese and MEC APCs can now shoot through penetrable materials". This fix was a miscommunication to the patch team. Chinese and MEC APCs have been reverted and the LAV25 now no longer shoots through penetrable materials.
- Vehicles no longer disappear when viewed from some vehicles with a HUD (e.g. Tanks).
- Performance gain found in static mesh rendering.
- Detonation radius from grenade launcher explosions has been reduced.
- Grenade launcher projectiles now have a minimum time before arming.
- "Dolphin Diving" will no longer be possible.
- Weapons cannot be fired while jumping.
Those last 4 definately make me happy, because it will finally end most of the n00bish tactics that annoy myself, and many others. NO MORE N00B T00BING!
Difficulty installing linux on my computer
OK, a little background info here. I tried installing linux on my Athlon 64 system a few months back, and it installed just fine, but the X server was broken because of the graphics I was using at the time (integrated Radeon Xpress 200). Fast forward a few months, I've since upgraded many components, quadrupled my RAM, and gotten a Geforce 7800GTX for Christmas. I tried installing the other night, and it freezes at random parts in the installer. I haven't gotten past the partitioner yet :S I guess it could be my CD, so I'll try burning it again, but if that doesnt work, then I don't know what it could be. When I installed a few months back, I used Ubuntu 5.04 Hoary Hedgehog release , and this time it was 5.10 Breezy Badger, so that could be it as well. I was planning on dist-upgrading to 6.04 Dapper Drake development, so I could try Hoary again, and dist-upgrade from that I suppose...
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas why this didn't work, please share :P
See that "Categories" list...
I added that in myself :) I totally guessed the code required. I was hoping to use the %categorylist% variable...but when I did, all it added was the link for "All" categories :/ Oh well..until I figure out the proper way of adding this function...this will do.
Go me for hacking the skin! :D
Edit: Did some more modification of the sidebar, and there's more where that came from as long as I can find some interesting features to add.
Finally skinned...
Well, I finally skinned the blog! I used a skin designed for Nucleus CMS, the blogging software that Blog:CMS is based on. While similar, they do have their differences so I had to modify the skin slightly to suit my needs. All told, I like how it turned out. Still need to make a banner, thats why theres a blank space above the posts :P
Lol...almost got rid of this...
I was having problems posting here on my Linux computer...and I thought the web coding just wasn't playing nice with it, turns out it was the WYSIWYG editor that Blog:CMS uses by default. It's called FCKEditor...and it doesn't seem to work, no matter what site I visit that uses it. I have changed the editor to a more basic one, but it will do.
More about my blog...
I think I picked a pretty good blogging program...it's got many features...but many of them won't be used :P Oh well, never hurts to have em, in case I do find use for them. Still working on the skin...I'm not entirely sure how to change the default, but I haven't even read the guides yet. Maybe I should...
Welcome to my blog!
Well...seems I've finally made a blog. "About time", many would say. I've been avoiding this, because I didn't want to join the misguided masses flocking to myspace and livejournal, and I was too lazy to install my own software...until now.
This will serve as my middle finger to the likes of myspace and livejournal.
Yes...I know the current skin sucks...I will replace it as soon as I learn how.
That is all for now.
