Another week, a fresh linux install, another screenshot
I had to reinstall both Windows and Linux after my motherboard upgrade, and this time, I decided against using XGL/Compiz, it's just not mature enough yet. Besides, it kept me from playing games, so I am sort of glad to be rid of it. Anyway...enough babble, onto the new screenshot of doom:
New hardware for my gaming computer!
Today I bought an Asus A8N-SLI motherboard, and next week, when it arrives, I will be putting a dual-core Athlon X2 3800+ in it :D I couldn't be more excited. Besides some issues I had regarding the Nvidia Firewall, and having to reinstall windows (I was due for a reinstall anyway), I've had no issues whatsoever. I overclocked my current Athlon 64 3000+ to 2.0 ghz from 1.8 ghz, and it still runs much cooler than it used to thanks to the silver-based thermal paste I applied. It now idles at 36°C when before it idled at 45°C at stock speed! I plan to overclock the X2 to 2.2 ghz, or 2.4 ghz, I will decide when I see what temperature it runs at.
Dapper XGL/Compiz screenshot
The screenshot bug was fixed in XGL, so as promised, here is a screenshot:
Idiots piss me off...
...especially when they play BF2, and think they're pilots :\
Annoyance #1:
I hate when jerks steal the pilots seat in the bombers, when its quite obvious they dont deserve to be there. Sure, many are decent at flying (though many aren't), but they can't bomb anything if their life and their copilot's life depended on it (and sometimes they do, Anti-Aircraft missiles anyone?). Half the time they end up dogfighting with other planes, and getting killed because that's not what the bombers are meant for. Those missiles are for self-defence only!
And yet, they continue to take the seat, death after death, until it gets to the point where I feel like shooting them with the M95 before they can take off...but that would be rude (and often gets you kicked).
Annoyance #2:
I hate when those cocky bastards take it upon themselves to repeatedly bomb the uncapturable bases (9 times out of 10, an airbase) where all the people like to spawn, when many servers will BAN you for this. Even if there isn't a rule for it, it's still not right, it lessens the enjoyment for the rest of us. And yet, they will have the audacity to complain if you do the very same thing to them after you finally manage to shoot one down and send him back to his airbase.
Annoyance #3:
The one that I hate the MOST is people who teamkill for planes, or throw themselves infront of your plane so you teamkill them. Like, come on man...does the plane matter that much to you? If I get to it first, then too bad, wait for the next one.
Alright, this post became much longer than I wanted it to, so I will end my rant here.
I am ecstatic right now
I finally got Linux to install on my gaming computer! I'm not sure exactly what did it, but I suspect it's the newer drivers that came with the Ubuntu 6.04 Dapper flight 5 CD. I dist-upgraded to flight 6, and installed XGL and Compiz. "WOW", that is really all that can be said about this...in my opinion, it looks even better than Mac OSX which it was inspired by. Can't wait til the screenshot bug is fixed, I'll definately share some here. There is one drawback, I can't play games. But, I've still got Windows, so it isn't a big problem. When Nvidia updates their drivers to support AIGLX, I might give that a try.
